SUMMER OF DISCOVERY PROGRAM INFORMATION

The Community Education Department, in collaboration with Medway Public Schools, is excited to offer a unique back-to-school opportunity for all students at no cost for families. This program will support a successful transition into the 2023-24 school year.  Our Summer of Discovery program will take place Monday-Friday, August 14-18.

We understand the summer break is incredibly precious to you and your family. Similarly, we also understand the continued needs of connections, wellness, and access to academic content, are vital to students' continued growth.  Summer of Discovery will support all of these key elements  The program includes creative interactive experiences that will help your child/ren reconnect with their peers and school community, re-engage with the academic and social tools necessary to support success in the classroom, and create positive memories that should recharge us all.

What is Summer of Discovery?

In short, Summer of Discovery is a comprehensive program that aims to support successful student transition into the 2023-24 school year. 

When does the program run?

The program will run 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. August 14-18 at three schools: 

  • Burke-Memorial School: Kindergarten - 4th grade

  • Medway Middle School: 5th - 8th grade

  • Medway High School: 9th grade Bridge Program only 

 *We will offer an extended day option from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. at the Burke-Memorial School for Kindergarten - 4th grade students, if we have enough interest. 

Here are some key highlights to the Summer of Discovery, 2023 Program:

  • High level/project based learning opportunities

  • Small class size 

  • Responsive Classroom style classroom set up

    • Safe, joyful and engaging classroom environment

    • Focus on social and emotional competencies—cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, empathy, and self-control—and a set of academic competencies—academic mindset, perseverance, learning strategies, and academic behaviors.

    • Morning meeting/message

  • Specials (Art, Music, Wellness, etc.)

  • Time outdoors

  • Time built into the schedule to review expectations of the school day

  • “Bridge” activities built into the Kindergarten, 2nd and 5th grade schedule focusing on their new learning location
